October 20-24, 2025 is Digital Citizenship Week. Throughout this week, students will reflect on how their digital lives impact their social and emotional well-being and that of others. Students will also focus on how to be good digital citizens and how they can use technology to create change in their communities and the world. Students will create various advocacy projects to create awareness and to teach others how to practice good digital citizenship.
December 8th-14th, 2025 is Computer Science Education week. Throughout this week students will be participating in whole school and class activities relating to computer science. The goal is to continue to inspire students to develop a passion for computer science. At P.S. 58Q, The School of Heroes, we will be having events in early January 2026 to celebrate Computer Science Education Week.
In May 2026, we will engage with Robotics. Students will participate in robotic challenges by using code to program the robots to complete specific tasks. It is a fun way for students to apply what they have learned about computer science, programming, and robotics.
Day of AI is March 27, 2026. We will engage in AI Literacy activities during May 2026 to go along with the Robotics unit. AI Literacy for elementary students is about understanding the basics of artificial intelligence through simple concepts such as identifying AI in their daily lives, learning how to use AI tools responsibly and ethically, and understanding and engaging with machine learning.
Computer Science End of Year Showcase: Throughout the year students will work on various projects in computer science. By the end of the year, students will go through and choose their favorite project that they wish to share with the class. Following this, the CS teacher will put together a small presentation that will be shared with parents during the May Parent Teacher Conferences.
