Ms. Vecchio's Class

  • Welcome to 3-303, I’m Ms. Vecchio your child’s teacher.  3rd grade is a wonderful grade where you will see a tremendous amount of growth both socially and academically.  Students begin to become independent and organized and serious about school, their friends and their test scores.
  • In our school we’ve adopted the common core curriculum and are using NY City selected programs such as HMH, Envisions, Amplify and Iready to teach the curriculum.  I am very excited to see that PS 58 has everything available for your children to help them succeed with the new rigorous standards.
  • This year your children will take  state tests in the Spring.  I will help your child the best I can but we need to be partners in their education, I love working closely with parents I love to give you ideas and websites and tips to help your child at home,
  • Homework must be done. I usually give the exact same assignments for reading, and math,  I thoroughly go over each and every thing that is assigned, I also tell the children what books they need to take home and not to forget their lunch box and water bottle.
  • I have set up a remind 101 where I can quickly text you all a message -it would be great if you could sign up
  • Our classroom runs on kindness, I have so many positive behavior plans set up. I do expect students to be respectful, and kind not only to me but to each other.
  • I am more than happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom. However, try to let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.
  • If you are having someone other than the names you provided on the blue card you must let me know in writing or call the school and let the office know, your child’s safety is my priority
  • Your child has received an agenda/student planner. Please sign their agenda books every night to ensure their homework was completed. And that you are aware of upcoming events in the classroom .
  • Over the weekend you child should be working on iready.com to strengthen their skills.  They will receive a participation grade on the report card
  • Homework must be completed nightly and brought back to school the following day. Homework will be checked daily; if there is any reason that homework is not completed, please send in a note so that I am aware.
  • We have begun to use our Friday folders.  Your child’s test scores will be kept inside here.
  •         PS 58’s scoring system is

95% -100% (above standard)

85%-95%    (on standard)

75%-85%    (approaching standard)

  • If your child is absent, is going home early, or there is a dismissal change, I would greatly appreciate a note.
  • P.S. 58 has wonderful and exciting activities throughout the year. Please send signed permission slips in ASAP to ensure that your child is able to participate. Some activities incorporate food, so make sure to indicate any allergies or food restrictions
  • If you need to contact me for any reason, please send your child to school with a note and I will get back to you as soon as possible. It is very important to me that we communicate, in order to help your child grow and achieve academically.
