Visual Arts

At P.S. 58, we believe that art is an essential part of a well-rounded education. All students in grades Pre-K through 6 receive weekly visual arts instruction from our full-time art teachers and classroom teachers.

Students learn about the seven elements of art, which are the building blocks of artistic expression:

  • Color
  • Line
  • Shape
  • Texture
  • Space
  • Form
  • Value

Understanding these elements helps students create original artwork and appreciate art in the world around them.

Our students’ creativity shines beyond the classroom. In 2019, P.S. 58 proudly showcased student artwork at the Queens Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of special exhibits featuring young artists from across New York City. Throughout the year, you can also see student art displayed on bulletin boards throughout our school building.
